Video Remote Interpreting
Video Remote Interpreting enables a hearing person and Deaf person to communicate with each other through a remote interpreter (in another location) via a video call. We can provide our customers with video remote interpreting solutions that meet your needs.
Remote interpreting can be achieved by an agreed method such as a Zoom or Teams link or via our own secure video platform with an invite sent on an email to all 3 parties. Each party is connected as soon as they click on the link in the email.
VRI provides access to fully qualified & NRCPD registered interpreters for a variety of settings including some of the following below:
- Health
- Social care
- Primary, secondary, further and higher education
- Employment and training
- Customer service centres in public and or private sectors
- Customer service centres in corporate, retail, travel and banking businesses
- Fire, ambulance and police emergency situations
Technical Essentials for VRI
Our VRI is accessible through any computer, smartphone, tablet with a webcam and a strong, stable internet connection (Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G). No plug in or downloads required.
VRI is NOT a replacement for face-to-face interpreting – face-to-face interpreting for BSL users and lip-speakers is still highly valued by Deaf people.
VRI is an additional communication support tool. It allows people to have additional choices particularly in short notice and urgent situations where face-to-face interpreters may not be available.
